5G Cruïlla: Europe’s first 5G festival
“5G Cruïlla” pilot project, promoted by Cruïlla, 5G Barcelona, ACCIONA, Cellnex, MASMOVIL and Qwilt, enabled attendees to the festival to experience a live concert from the stage using 360° immersive experience. A 360º stereoscope camera on the middle of the main stage with six lenses that recorded images in 4k and sent them via smalls cells to 3D virtual reality headsets located in the festival area where the participants used the VR glasses to watch 360º streaming video with minimum latency. 5G advanced broadband networks and the temporary memory storage capacity at the extreme data processing of the network (edge computing) were the key for the success of the project. With this pilot project, Festival Cruïlla became last summer Europe’s first 5G festival and one of the world’s first testing grounds for 5G technology applied to entertainment and live music.
